DIABETES
I have had Type 1 diabetes since 2003. My most recent projects have involved writing about life, travel, and other aspects of life with diabetes. It was difficult for me to reach a point where I could write for publications like Diabetes Forecast about the challenges I face. Now you'll find me sharing my experiences with others.
I'm also a writer for the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) blog. There, I've written about international diabetes education, traveling with diabetes, relationships between diabetes clinics and patients, what it's like to be a college student with diabetes, and more. One of my articles was published in the March 2015 edition of AADE: In Practice, an industry journal.
Beyond Type 1 recently published my story about introducing type 1 diabetes into the New Zealand backcountry.
Read my unsolicited advice on How to Handle Diabetes Questions: Part 1 and Part 2 on The Diabetes Council, and find my story about diabetes burnout on The Villainesse.
HPL: HER PACKING LIST
I write for Brooke and her amazing website for female adventurers. It's pretty cool to have Pinterest-worthy pieces - the likes of which can be found in Packing Tips for Camping in New Zealand, What to Pack for Edinburgh in Winter, The Ultimate Female Packing List for the French Alps in Winter and A Girl's Guide to Traveling with Diabetes.
ELITE DAILY
My thoughts on life have been published by Elite Daily: The "Voice of Generation Y," a high-traffic site that produces content by and for twentysomethings. Check out: "Stop Being Jealous of Your Friends Who Travel and Just Get a Passport," and "Gypsy Life: How to Readjust to Life After Spending Time Abroad."
PRODUCING CONTENT
I'm also a freelance writer for several media groups. My travel work has been published on sites such as TravelTips for USAToday.com, including tips for visiting Cape Cod (and again) and the Alps...with a little history thrown in there.
